2021-2022 Mason Young Artists Competition Guidelines

Eligibility Requirements:  Artists must be a student in grades 9-12, college or post-graduate school and be a Polk County, Florida resident or enrolled in a Polk County educational institution. Artists of voice, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion are invited to apply.

Important Dates:  Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on January 14, 2022. Applicants will be notified of judges’ decisions on January 17, 2022. Finalists may compete in person Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Instrumentalists must submit an unedited video recording of themselves performing one complete movement of the work proposed for performance with piano accompaniment.

Vocalists must submit an unedited video recording of themselves performing two complete arias with piano accompaniment.

The work(s) must be composed for soloist and symphony or string orchestra, in original key and/or language (unless changed by concert tradition). Consultation with a music teacher or private instructor regarding your selection is encouraged. If your selection is not readily available, you may be required to submit a scan of the work for the judges.

The application must be submitted online at masonyoungartists.org.

The ISO will provide the Mason Young Artist Winner with four (4) complimentary tickets to the performance on Saturday, March 5, 2022.  All students are admitted free of charge to LSO performances with student ID or paying adult.

Musician Stipend:  LSO provides a $500 stipend to the Winner to assist with expenses that may include, but are not limited to, travel and accompanist fees related to this competition.

Rehearsal and Performance Requirements: The Mason Young Artist Winner must be available for rehearsals in Lakeland on Friday March 4, 2022 at 7 p.m. and Saturday March 5, 20220 at 2:00 p.m. and must be available to perform at the concert on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
